ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A school district superintendent says he was asked to drop a complaint he made to state police about local officers breaking into a high school and playing basketball in the gym.

Abbeville School District Superintendent Jonathan Phipps told The Index Journal of Greenwood ( ) that Abbeville's police chief compared officers climbing into Abbeville High School through an open window to a relative breaking into his home.

Phipps says Police Chief Mark Hall said he wouldn't press charges against the relative.

Phipps says if a teacher had done the same thing, he would want the book thrown at them. He also says the window was not open.

The officer who climbed through the window resigned and neither of those playing basketball was charged.

Hall didn't respond to questions from the newspaper.
