A week ago, North Carolina had 23,222 COVID-19 cases, and Sunday state health officials reported 28,589 cases. That’s up more than 900 from Saturday, and an increase of 5,367 cases from Sunday, May 24. Over the past week there have been 142 coronavirus-related deaths in the state, and a total of 886.
The number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations Is up 11 to 649. There have now been more than 416,000 tests conducted. On Saturday, 8% of the tests were positive, down from 10% the previous day. In congregate living settings, North Carolina nursing homes have had 3,253 cases and 466 deaths, and there are 91 ongoing outbreaks. 16 of those outbreaks are in Mecklenburg County.
There have also been 792 COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths in residential care facilities, with 43 ongoing outbreaks. 6 of those are in Mecklenburg County. Correctional facilities have reported 1,208 cases and 18 deaths.
Mecklenburg County now has 4,028 cases and 88 deaths. Rowan County is reporting 640 cases and 33 deaths, Cabarrus County 478 cases and 21 deaths, Union County 435 cases and 19 deaths, Gaston County 276 cases and 7 deaths, Iredell County 254 cases and 5 deaths and Cleveland County reporting 89 cases and 2 deaths. There are cases in all 100 North Carolina counties.
South Carolina reports 11,861 cases, an increase of 312 from the previous day. There have been 494 COVID-19 related deaths. York County has reported 407 cases, Lancaster County 135 cases and Chester County 80 cases.
