Issues raised about safety in uptown Charlotte after assault on a couple

An assault on a couple in uptown Charlotte along with a recent murder there have raised some concerns about safety.

Captain Dave Johnson of the CMPD says he cannot remember a case like this in uptown. He advises those who frequent the Charlotte nightlife that it goes without saying, when anytime anyone walks around late at night, they need to be aware of their surroundings.

Miasia Holloway said the recent crimes there do have her a little on edge. Ben Deese told WBTV it's something people should not have to focus on and just about every city will experience this at one time or another.

Anthony Coats, who had dinner with his family in uptown Thursday, said he and his family stay in well lit areas and where there is a lot of traffic with a lot of people close by.

The bottom line is, if you visit uptown, do as Captain Johnson stated: enjoy your time there and be aware of your surroundings.
