A Charlotte City Councilman was among the 11 people arrested during protest of the death of George Floyd Friday night in West Charlotte.
CMPD Chief Kerr Putney said that Braxton Winston, who’s served on the council since he was elected in 2017, was arrested for failure to disperse.
Braxton Winston is a familiar name to protesting, where he protested at the 2016 Keith Scott protests in Uptown Charlotte. Winston flooded Facebook and was nearby when a young protestor, Justin Carr was shot and killed by a fellow protestor, according to police.
Winston tweeted early Saturday morning that he’d been released.
“I am home safe,” He wrote. “Thank you all for your support. There are a lot of people that are still in the process. There is a lot of work to do.”
