PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that nine players are being voluntarily sidelined from their training camp roster due to “potential secondary exposure to an individual who had contact with a person that has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The team learned of the possible exposure on Sunday.
The decision to isolate the players “was made out of an abundance of caution in an effort to avoid exposure to anyone else within the organization.”
The players will not be a part of training camp until they are deemed safe according to NHL protocols and further test results.
The names of the players sidelined have not been released, but Captain Sidney Crosby was seen on the ice on Monday so he is not one of the nine.
The Penguins began training camp on Monday after the COVID-19 shutdown.
