A Military Working Dog and his Marine Corps veteran handler are together again.

MWD Ramos and Brendan Cabey were reunited at National Parks of Boston's historic Charlestown Navy Yard just after cannons were fired and Taps was played in remembrance of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We are so honored and humbled to be able to bring MWD Ramos back home," said Dr. Robin R. Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane in a release. "On the nineteenth anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history, we are reminded of the resolve of our armed forces and the critical role that dogs play in keeping our country safe."

John Curwen, director of Visitor Experience and Engagement with National Parks of Boston and an Iraq War veteran, spoke about the somber anniversary of 9/11.

"MWD Ramos and so many military working dogs have played a vital role serving our country," added Anne Grimes Rand, president and CEO of the USS Constitution Museum.

Rand gave Ramos a plushie of Guerriere the Terrier, the sea dog of “Old Ironsides” and an essential component of USS Constitution’s canine history.

K-9 Heroes Act aims to support retired military working dogs and their owners

Ganzert said American Humane has a long and storied history of working alongside the American military, dating back to World War I.

“Today, we are happy to continue and build on that historic tradition, helping bring retired military working dogs back stateside for retirement and training service dogs for veterans diagnosed with either post-traumatic stress or traumatic brain injury,” she said.

Michael Cancelliere, a park ranger with National Parks of Boston, also swore in Ramos as a B.A.R.K. Ranger during the ceremony.
