NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Barack Obama really is a man of the people.

So much so, that he's inviting people to text him at 773-365-9687. It's a Chicago area code, his adopted hometown.

"All right, let's try something new," he tweeted Wednesday. "If you’re in the United States, send me a text at 773-365-9687 — I want to hear how you're doing, what's on your mind, and how you're planning on voting this year. I'll be in touch from time to time to share what's on my mind, too."

When you text the number, you will get a response that reads, "Hey! It's Barack ... I won't be able to get to everything, but I'll be in touch to share what on my mind and I want to hear from you. Let's do this."

If you call the number, you'll hear a message from Obama: "Hi, it's Barack Obama. Send me a text and I'll send you messages from time to time. Looking forward to hearing from you."

It's part of a text-based platform called Community, which also has on its roster Ashton Kutcher, the Jonas Brothers and Megan Thee Stallion.
