A casino in Tracy is adapting to the reality of COVID-19 by moving card games such as blackjack and poker outdoors.

The tables are also spaced six feet apart and chips and cards are swapped out every few hours so they can be disinfected. All patrons are screened when they arrive.

“Even before they enter our facility, they are required to go through a thermal check and sanitize their hands even before they set foot on the gaming floor,” said Macalino.

Stars has been given approval by health officials to operate outside and bring their employees back. In addition to the new setting and smaller crowds, customers will find another change.

“I’ve decided to not serve alcoholic beverages until we can work out all the kinks and iron out all the wrinkles in our operations,” Macalino explained. The casino does have a permit to serve drinks with food, but that will have to wait for now.

Macalino says thanks to the precautions they are taking, Stars is the only card room open now in the Tracy area.
