NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The Food and Drug Administration warned people that research shows people can spread the coronavirus to their pets, with cats and ferrets apparently more at risk of contracting the virus from humans.

“Though it doesn't seem like animals can give you the virus, it appears you can give it to them,” the FDA warned in a video posted to YouTube.

Among the other measures pet owners can take to reduce the risk:

- Don’t let pets interact with people outside of your home- Keep cats indoors- Walk dogs on a leash, keeping them at least 6 feet from other people- Consider avoiding dog parks and other crowded places
