NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A bombshell report from the New York Times about President Donald Trump's tax returns has inspired Democratic opponent Joe Biden's campaign to create some new merch ahead of Tuesday's first presidential debate.
Quickly seizing on the moment, the Biden campaign is now selling stickers that read, "I paid more income taxes than Donald Trump." A two-pack costs $7.50.
This comes after the Times reported on Sunday that Trump owed the IRS just $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 — the year he ran for office — and 2017 — his first year in office. The report also claims Trump avoided paying federal income taxes in 10 of the last 15 years.
The Biden campaign also released a new ad on Twitter Sunday night, just hours after the Times report was published, featuring the faces of a number of taxpayers, their occupations and their corresponding tax payments before comparing their payments to the president's.
The ad features no narration.
Trump is denying the Times story.
"It's just fake news," the president said.
Trump Organization lawyer Alan Garten told the Times that “most, if not all, of the facts appear to be inaccurate.”
The Times said it obtained Trump's tax returns from people who have legal access to them.
