VIDEO: Woman, 54, breaks leg after violently thrown to ground at NJ Staples after asking fellow customer to wear mask

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 54-year-old New Jersey woman's leg was broken after she was thrown to the floor at a Hackensack Staples by another customer after asking her to properly wear her mask -- and a surveillance camera caught the entire incident.

Margot Kagan was using a fax/copy machine Wednesday afternoon at the Hackensack Avenue store when the suspect approached a nearby machine, but with her mask pulled down below her mouth.

After Kagan -- a Teaneck resident who had liver transplant surgery four months ago -- asked the other woman to properly wear her mask, the suspect became angry and started yelling.

Kagan, who was carrying a cane, raised it and pointed it at the suspect in an attempt to keep her distance from her -- that's when the suspect grabbed Kagan, threw her to the ground and ran off before collecting her documents.

No one in the store -- customers or Staples staff -- immediately came to Kagan's aid. Kagan was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with a broken leg.No arrests have been made.

The suspect is a Black woman, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8 and about 160 pounds, police said. Call the Hackensack Police Department with any tips at (201) 646-7777.
