Reopen NC is advocating a burn your mask challenge in response to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper saying the state could potentially require citizens to wear a mask.
The CDC and medical professionals mostly agree that wearing a mask helps limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. The group however disputes that.
The group’s Facebook page features video’s of members burning face coverings along with posts encouraging participation in the challenge.
In one video, a member reads the label of a package of face coverings and draws the conclusion that the masks don’t prevent Covid-19.
"This mask is not a respirator and is intended for general purpose practices," she read off one mask packaging label. "For me personally, I will not comply."
The videos have so far been viewed thousands of times.
