Thousands of students packed into First Ward Park Saturday --- declaring "no more gun violence."

Uptown Charlotte's gathering is one of many throughout the country for the "March for Our Lives" movement, a response to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17.

The rally was organized by five locals high school girls, led by Maddy Syfert, a senior at Myers Park High School.

She told the crowd that no politicians were invited to speak because "politicians need to listen."

They called for tighter background checks on gun buyers and tougher gun control laws.

The group then marched a few blocks to Marshall Park.
