Unlike oil, gas won't hit the point where people pay you to take it

Crude oil prices have returned to positive territory today, though not by much. The negative turn Monday was something never seen before in the oil and gas industry.

"First of all, nobody's buying it, second, there's not a whole lot of places to put it anymore," said Patrick DeHann, oil market analyst for GasBuddy.com.

DeHaan said oil that has been making it through to refineries is barely trickling its way through to the end of the process.

"Refineries have actually slowed down operations, in light of the reduction in gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel demand," he said.

Gasoline prices today average $1.58 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com, and DeHaan says it's likely to get cheaper than that.

"We'll continue to see gas prices coming down, of course, we will not hit a predicament in which you're paid to fill your tank, unfortunately."
