Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper surprised 60 Charlotte Mecklenburg School teachers on Tuesday with a donation of $150,000 for a mid-year boost.

The David A. Tepper Foundation, John M Belk Endowment and Carolina Panthers Charities through Classroom Central announced that the donation will help 800 CMS teachers receive new school supplies in 17 Title 1 schools across the county.

The 60 teachers that were invited had a chance to hear a speech from Panthers offensive tackle Taylor Moton and Tepper.

Tepper's mother was a teacher and he let the fellow teachers know how much teachers meant to him.

"I really appreciate what they do, and I understand that you're really trying to give supplies that you otherwise might not have to your students," Tepper said. "It means something to me that we can do this for them."

Last year, Tepper provided over 15,000 backpacks and school supplies to CMS.
