News 1110 WBT supports Kids First of the Carolinas annually with leadership from WBT host, John Hancock.

Hancock has been involved with this charity for nearly two decades.

Each year, we help lead the way for donations that make it possible for this charity to exist.

One of the ways people donate is by bidding on items in the Kids First Auction.

People and businesses from around the community donate items to raise funds to buy these kids gifts and other needed items.

This year's auction of 32 items held during John Hancock's Thursday show from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. raised $17, 361.

On Friday, Hancock broadcasts live onsite from the Kids First gift collection site, where it is an awe-inspiring, lump-in-the-throat-inducing sight to behold as the local Charlotte Community pulls together to help needy children receive the best holiday possible.

Literally, truckloads of gifts arrive one by one, and hundreds of local hands all gather around to help unload the vehicles which will then be distributed to the children at the annual Christmas Party. The party includes lots of food - generously donated from area restaurants - music, entertainment, children's smiles, and of course, Santa himself!

Simply put, the event is the very essence of what the holiday season is all about: communities coming together in the light of a giving spirit.
