BLOG: Kicking a Habit

Panther Talk

Kicker Graham Gano is a perfect 10 for 10 on field goal attempts this season.  Most important was his most recent kick, a 48-yarder on the final play to beat the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots last Sunday.

Gano is in his sixth season with the Panthers, and is coming off his worst percentage from a year ago, at 79%.

Other factors such as ever-changing holders certainly affected that number.

But after making 30 of 38 tries last season, the organization drafted Harrison Butker out of Georgia Tech to compete for the job.

Gano won the kicking battle this preseason, while Butker landed on the practice squad here before Kansas City claimed him last week.

Ironically, Butker made what turned out to be a game-winning kick in his first pro game as the Chiefs beat the Redskins on Monday night.

Here's my interview with Gano, on beating the Pats and looking ahead to the Detroit Lions this Sunday on WBT.
