Syracuse professor and media analyst Dr. Robert Thompson checked in with WBT's Morning News with Bo Thompson on Tuesday.

Formerly being in the Big East, Dr. Thompson gave some insight into the life of Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson (no relation), along with DNC/RNC takeaways and the loss of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.

A somewhat refreshing feeling with both political conventions not having a live audience was the focus for Thompson. "Except for the last night of the Republican convention, you didn't have all of the applause and the live audience. They were about to jam a lot of things into these things, because they could go from one thing to the next."

As for the overall message coming from either side, the Dr. thought the numbers spoke louder than words. "One way of judging (the conventions) would be who got the highest ratings," Thompson added. "And the Democratic convention got higher ratings than the Republican did." One reason for that could be production value. The Democrats used entertainers to introduce speakers, while the Republicans used their own party and Trump family members to transition between presenters.
