Fortalice Solutions cyber security expert Theresa Payton joined The Bo Thompson Morning Show on Wednesday. Among the burning topics in the world of technology this week is how North Carolina families are working with the challenges of online learning.

Several school districts in the state reported issues with remote classes since the start of the school year last month. Most notably, a statewide server crash on the first day bringing classes to a grinding halt.

Outside of the Carolinas, the lack of security with remote classes have resulted in legal trouble for a Texas man. Ibraheem Ahmed Al Bayati, 19, was arrested on Sept. 4 for making threats or conveying false information to destroy by means of fire or explosives and making a threat over interstate commerce charges.

The Houston resident performed a "Zoom bomb" saying "what does any of this have to do with the fact that UH is about to get bombed in a few days?" prosecutors said.

Also, Payton warns that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks are on the rise. The intentional act paralyzing of a computer network with data overload puts all educational interests at-risk in the country.
