The Charlotte City Council is on it's annual retreat to set priorities for 2020.

In a ball room at the Washinton Duke Inn and Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina, discussions are being held about major issues facing Charlotte and the surrounding area.

Affordable housing, transportation, keeping up with growth, these are all important issues, but none are more important than safety.

Pat McCrory is often heard on his radio show pleading with city officials to get tougher on crime and criminals.

"We have a problem, we are arresting the same people over and over and over again."

"We are not trying them, over 70% of cases are not taken to court" McCrory explains.

He continues, "Let's not make our city like New York, LA or Chicago.  That's not the city I want Charlotte to be."
