The football game between No. 11 UNC and Charlotte scheduled for this Saturday has been canceled.

An official press release from the Charlotte 49ers Athletics Department said "The decision was made because several members of the offensive line were placed into quarantine following the University’s COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. The loss of eligible players prohibits the team from safely playing the game."

Three Charlotte football players have tested positive for the virus in the past two weeks, prompting other individuals to quarantine for 14 days due to university policy.

No word on if this news will impact Charlotte's home opener versus Georgia State scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26.

North Carolina added Charlotte as their only non-conference opponent to the 2020 schedule on Aug. 8. This weekend's game was scheduled to be the first-ever meeting between the in-state schools.

UNC was initially supposed to play non-conference foes Auburn, James Madison, Connecticut and Central Florida, but the games were canceled once the ACC required non-conference games to be played in the team's home state.

The Tar Heels will look to schedule another game using the two open dates on their schedule.
