The annual Claire's Army Gala will take on a different form in 2020, as the year has been marred by a global pandemic. Emily Ratliff has been at the healm of Claire's Army's mission to support families dealing with a child with cancer.

Due to social distancing efforts, Claire's Army will hold a Virtual House party for 2020 instead of the traditional gala. Ratliff remained positive that Claire's Army Resilience Week will still have a significant impact on families at Levine Children's Hospital & Novant Health Hemby Children's Hosptial.

Ratliff reflected on her family's experience with cancer, and emphasized the importance of having an 'army' of support. "The people that brought us food brought us so much more than just dinner, it was comfort, it was a step away from the chaos," Ratliff recalled.

Ratliff and her husband tragically lost their daughter Claire to cancer after spending more than a year in the hospital. The support she and her family recieved over that year or more inspired Ratliff to start Claire's Army.
