John Hancock

Weekdays 3pm - 6pm

Well over 25 years as the self proclaimed ‘Charlotte’s Most Beloved’, John Hancock took Charlotte by storm in 1990 and brought talk radio to a whole new level at the legendary WBT. Hancock quickly became one of Charlotte’s most respected radio names, and most colorful, visible, and sometimes controversial on-air personalities, In 1999 he decided to put himself in "time out", but returned in 2001, where he held down the 6pm-9pm "Maine to Miami, Canada to Cuba" time slot for 12 years.

John is best know for his annual "Kid's First' Christmas Auction & Bike Drive and the March 16th Father's Day Broadcasts.

As his many fans and listeners know, John is a Colorado native and a PK (Preacher's Kid). Following a short, but uneventful stint at Colorado State University, Hancock majored in "Street Smarts," working with many major Rock Music Tours, as a record promoter, and even a stint as a Rack Jobber in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. In addition, Hancock's radio career has included Denver, CO, Dallas, TX, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA and Jacksonville, Florida.

The Zumwalt Community Award (National: Marrow Donor), Charlotte's Best Magazine "Best Radio Personality," Creative Loafing "Best Local Personality," Creative Loafing "Best Talk Show Host," and Charlotte Magazine "Worst Whiner," and Talker's Magazine "Heavy Hundred" are among the many awards John has won. He was also included in NewsMax's 2015 Top 50 Most Influential Talk Radio Shows in America.

Hancock has enjoyed travel all over the world (Negril, Jamaica, the South of France, and his native Colorado are among his favorite places) and is a huge sports fan (Denver Broncos, St. Louis Cardinals, Carolina Panthers & soon the Hornets!) He stays very active in the community with Kid's First of the Carolinas, Habitat for Humanity, and the Community Marrow Donor Program.

John loves music of all kinds, especially Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, and Tom Petty, and recalls his first concert was The Beatles at Red Rocks in 1964. John lives with his wife Susan in Belmont.
