Beating the New England Patriots has been the primary focus for the Kansas City Chiefs since losing the AFC championship game last January. The Chiefs had home-field advantage and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes but the Patriots escaped Arrowhead Stadium with a 37-31 overtime win and went on to win their...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs will head into arguably their biggest game of the season Sunday in New England with the very real possibility that their leading rusher could be a running back that joined the team just a few days ago. Not that it seems to make much difference for them...

File-This Dec. 22, 2012, file photo shows Pittsburgh Steelers chairman emeritus Dan Rooney attending the unveiling of a marker commemorating the 40th anniversary of the "Immaculate Reception" at the sight of the catch on the Northside of Pittsburgh. In 2003, the NFL had three minority head coaches: future Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dungy, Herman Edwards and Marvin Lewis. In the 12 previous seasons, there had been six. Total. Considering that the majority of the players in the league 16 years ago were minorities, that imbalance was enormous. And disturbing. And, frankly, it was unfair. Paul Tagliabue, then the NFL commissioner, put together a committee that established the "Rooney Rule," which requires all teams with coaching and front office vacancies to interview minority candidates. The rule, long overdue, was named for Rooney, then president of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the overseer of that committee. (AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar, File)

Judging by the jump start, it looks like we're headed for a ninth consecutive season with at least a half-dozen NFL head coaches getting canned. The coaching carousel began whirling earlier than usual this season with Jay Gruden getting fired by the Washington Redskins in October after an 0-5 start...

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Hey rook, get in there. The salary cap, rookie wage scale and migration of strategies from the college to the professional game have placed more of a premium than ever on playing rookies in the NFL. The days of sitting on the bench or having limited roles while learning from...

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tom Brady wanted to make one thing clear: He did not injure his toe during a tryout to become the New England Patriots’ new placekicker. "Nope, that’s not how I hurt it and I’m not the new kicker," the star quarterback said. The 42-year-old Brady actually has kicked in the...

ATLANTA (AP) — LSU is perfectly comfortable in an offensive shootout, both teams racing up and down the field, throwing caution to the wind and lighting up the scoreboard with big play after big play. Georgia would prefer a defensive quagmire, where every yard in a struggle, the sort of knock-'em-...

When Baylor jumped out to a quick 25-point lead over Oklahoma, there was a sense for the Bears that they really did belong in those conversations about being a Big 12 contender — and maybe even bigger things. That feeling didn’t go away, even after the 12-time Big 12 champion Sooners had their...
